Abstract

The article aims to show the diverse characters in Lyudmila Ulitska’s novel “Through Lineˮ. In the six connected stories most of them share qualities such as pettiness, inconspicuousness and an inability to fit into society’s expectations. In its focus, the study aims to profile the characters of Ulitska’s work and to draw similarities between them and the “little people” of the classical Russian literature. Another focal point in this article will be the challenges of reaching an understanding between different generations and the difficulties of creating a fulfilling life in times of uncertainty.

Key words: postmodern, society, Russian literature, novel, Lyudmila Ulitska
