Abstract
The communicative fabric of identity subjects the individual to a constant trial, as communication is an inherently demanding process that initially involves separation and differentiation of the self, followed by an inevitable rapprochement both with one’s other self and with the Other as a communicative partner. This communicative dynamic becomes particularly complex within marriage, since marital communication is responsible not only for harmony in marital relations but also for the preservation and development of personal identity. The aim of the present study is to examine how certain characters in the works of Olga Tokarczuk cope with their marital roles and how their marital experiences influence the formation, transformation, or destabilization of their identities. The research employs analytical, cognitive-psychological, and comparative methods.
