Abstract

The text examines the state of methodological training of future foreign language teachers in Bulgaria in order to argue for the need for its modernization in the context of numerous changes. The university programs in foreign language methodology in several universities are analyzed and it is found that they do not reflect the changed role of the foreign language teacher, as well as the current requirements for new skills. A strong emphasis on theory and the lack of attention to areas such as working with digital tools, artificial intelligence, emotional intelligence and classroom management are identified.
The need to update university programs by introducing new modules, integrating practical activities and developing specific skills is emphasized.
