Abstract
This paper is an attempt to analyse the Polish semantic lexical unit signifying the concept of stage fright. Referring to the methodology developed by Anna Wierzbicka, the article tackles the notion of lexical variables implied by the expression that has been examined. Next, whilst comparing structures: „X has stage fright because p” (X ma tremę z powodu p) and „X is ashamed to do p” (X wstydzi się zrobić p) I arrive at four hypothetical components of the two lexical units.
