Abstract
The subject of this study is the question of participial forms in two modern unrelated languages – Bulgarian and Italian, and the place of the mentioned forms in the functional-semantic field of the voice. There is a debate between the Bulgarian linguistics – whether they are core or peripheral explicators of active and passive semantics. One of the main goals of the scientific analysis is to express our opinion on this important theoretical case. In addition, we will briefly present the most important characteristics of the participial systems in the two languages being compared, emphasizing the manifestations of symmetry and asymmetry in the functioning of the Bulgarian and Italian participial forms.
Key words: participle, functional-semantic field, voice, diathesis, passive, active, Bulgarian, Italian
