Abstract
In this article the possibilities for applying the comparative approach in investigating the Slaveno-Serbian and Slaveno-Bulgarian types of literary language of the time of Serbian and Bulgarian Revival are examined. I outline the necessity of providing a complex analysis of the extralinguistic and intralinguistic factors, which determine the functioning of the aforementioned types at the first stage of shaping the national identity of the two nations while anticipating the ideas of the Enlightenment in both Serbian and Bulgarian cultures.
