Abstract

This paper aims to present an overview of the reception of Walter Scott in Bulgaria, with a particular focus on the reception of his historical novel Kenilworth. For that purpose, the paper is divided into two sections. The first section offers an overview of the publication facts in terms of reception, while also focusing on the 250th anniversary of Walter Scott’s birth and the way it was marked in Bulgaria. Supported by specific examples, the second part presents a comparative analysis of two different Bulgarian translations of the novel. The primary objective of this paper is to utilize this case study as a guide for future research on the reception of Walter Scott in Bulgaria.
