Abstract
The current paper presents excerpted examples of the stylistic devices metaphor and simile from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby(1925). All four variants in Bulgarian, translated over the years by Nelly Dospevska (1966), Emil Minchev (2013), Stanimir Yotov (2013) and Pavel Boyanov (2013), are the main focus of the research. Analysis of the used means of translation has been carried out based on the terms introduced by the distinguished names in translation theory – Jean Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet, Nida and Taber, Newmark, Catford, Baker, Shuttlerworth and Cowie.
