Abstract

This article examines the use of politeness markers in official Bulgarian and German texts from a contrastive perspective, with a focus on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. Based on a bilingual corpus of administrative documents, the study investigates how culture-specific norms of politeness shape linguistic strategies in formal communication. The findings reveal differences between the two languages, highlighting how cultural dimensions influence the style of official texts and the challenges this poses for intercultural administrative communication. The results offer insights for translation studies, intercultural communication, and the management of institutional multilingualism.
