Abstract
The text traces the origins and particularities of the pastoral: the topos of Arcadia and the stable thematic and character systems which find manifestations in a number of genres in Western art. The Bucolic code is closely linked with the mythic poetic utopias of Antiquity – with the Isles of the Blessed and other relat-ed topoi in the traditions of Antiquity (pasture, meadow, garden); with the motif Eros-Thanatos, as well as with the stable character system (shepherd, nymph, satyr, cyclops, Daphne, Apollo, Eros, Pan, and Aphrodite.
