Abstract
The current paper aims to compare a group of diminutives – the so called diminutives pluralia tantum, for example крачка, хорица, дечица, ботушки, картофки – and a group of augmentatives, such as калища, гьолища, месища, телеса, etc., which are used in plural and do not have augmentative correlates in singular. The formation, the se-mantic and stylistic features of both groups of nouns are examined. We try to answer the question, whether the augmentatives explored here are pluralia tantum or they are parallel expressive plural forms of nouns in singular.
Key words: Diminutives pluralia tantum, augmentatives, expressiveness
