Abstract
This paper aims to present the Shakespearean “Tragedy of Macbeth”, recreated as a novel in the crime genre Nordic Noir by the Norwegian writer Jo Nesbø. The current novel is a part of the “Hogarth Shakespeare” book series – an international project in which established authors from all over the world are invited to depict in their authentic handwriting the plays of William Shakespeare for the modern reading public. The article will attempt to compare the Shakespearean drama and Nesbø’s novel – certain similarities and differences between the original and the new reading – and to point out reasons why the story of Macbeth fits so easily into the understanding of the Scandinavian Crime genre.
