Abstract

The main topic of this article is the development of the Bulgarian linguistic teachings, and in particular – the development of the Bulgarian dialectology as a science. The current study focuses on some descriptions of nasality traces in the Bulgarian dialects from the second half of the 19th century. It was found that the discovery of this archaic linguistic feature originating in Old Bulgarian Language becomes one of the key identifications of Modern Bulgarian Language as a direct descendant of the language written by St. Cyril and St. Methodius in the 9th century.

Key words: Bulgarian revival period, Bulgarian dialects, history of Bulgarian dialectology, nasal vowels, Bulgarian nasality
