Abstract

In this article we will focus on the specific ways of depicting female characters in one of the most famous trilogies in French and world literature – Alexandre Dumas’ trilogy “The Three Musketeers”, “Twenty Years After” and “The Vicomte de Bragelonne”, written in the years 1844–1850. The writer’s artistry creates several types of female characters that rest on a certain historical foundation. We will examine the historical prototypes of the main heroines and we will outline the main characteristics of the era depicted by Dumas.
