Abstract
This discussion focuses on the issue of meaning, or rather, lack of lexical meaning, when it comes to the modal particles, and elaborates on the functions of the German modal particle “denn“. The objective of the current research is to establish to what an extent denn has been registered in Bulgarian translations of contemporary German texts and what Bulgarian counterparts have been used.
