Abstract
The following paper presents the question of the place of the concept grammatical category in Russian and Bulgarian linguistics in the period 19th – early 20th centuries. The author pays attention to the main characteristics of the morphological categories from a theoretical point of view. The problem is discussed more extensively in Russian linguistics, while in contemporary Bulgarian linguistics the most outstanding are Ivan Kutsarov’s works, influenced by the ideas of A. V. Bondarko.
