Abstract
The following presentation focuses on proper names in the poetic works of Zbigniew Herbert. The focus is primarily on anthroponyms and toponyms (also some theonyms) as the most numerous group of names in Herbert’s poetry. The main purpose of this article is the functional interpretation of literary names (e.g. location in time and space, expressive function, intertextual function etc.) within the poetic text. I will consider nomina propria in the context of the poem as well as in the context of the outlook, ideas and philosophy of Herbert.
