Abstract
The lexeme kryzys in Polish which originally had a terminological (medical) character, was borrowed from German and for quite a long time did not stabilize in the linguistic system. Next it lost its terminological character and began to be used in relation to many different spheres of reality: economics, politics, system of values, culture, learning, sports, etc. Dictionaries of the Polish language lack certain collocations – frequent already in contemporary Polish texts – such as kryzys w humanistyce, humanistyka w kryzysie, kryzys zdania, kryzys narracji. Presumably, many combinations of the word kryzys, recorded in dictionaries and others found only in texts, today are internationalisms adopted from English.
Key words: lexicology, lexicography, semantic evolution of the word
