Abstract
This paper traces the challenges posed by Lyuben Karavelov’s play, dedicated to Hadzhi Dimitar. It highlights the response provoked by the performance and the process of the work getting attributed the specificity of a text meant for the stage. Also a matter of consideration is the bulk of historicising materials such as memoirs, documents, documentary prose, periodicals, and academic publications. The study draws upon obscure sources of the history of theatre studies in Plovdiv and in Sliven. Conclusions are based on comparative and contrastive analysis.
Key words: Hadzhi Dimitar, documents, documentary prose, periodicals, history of theatre studies in Plovdiv and in Sliven
