Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine the Serbian scientific style in the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century. The corpus consists of four texts from distinguished Serbian authors. The adverbial determination was analyzed. We employed the following criteria: (a) nominalizations; (b) prepositional phrases; (c) case constructions with expressing criteria; (d) discourse markers. We have concluded that there was a steady development in the Serbian scientific style, represented in the use of prepositional phrases and discourse markers. This is especially prominent in the scientific style of Aleksandar Belić.
