Abstract
The use of abbreviations is one of the most characteristic features of terminologies. The paper examines the problems of the formation, representation and usage of terms in German and Bulgarian terminological systems of sports. Because of the various structural, phonetic, orthographic and semantic specifics, their proper description is a problematic matter in the lexicological research.
