Abstract
There are certain challenges in comparing Chinese avant-garde fiction to its European counterpart(s) in regard to modifying the general model of the term “avant-garde“ and with the aim of accommodating the corresponding Chinese literary phenomenon. This paper casts an initial look at these challenges and then examines some of the important distinctions between the avant-garde movements in Europe and China.
