Abstract

The study treats compound predicates with noun or adverb in predicative position as main predicates complemented by subject clauses. It is assumed that the main predicate is not impersonal and the complement clause fills the empty subject position. The formal characteristics of both types of predicates are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the negation of the predicate, as well as to the oblique dative object in argument position. The relation between the type of the main predicate and the choice of a complementizer is also discussed. Conclusions are based on original untranslated media texts.
