Abstract
The following article explores the usage and transformations of various proverbs in contemporary Russian newspaper headlines. The different types of structural and semantic changes of the proverbs are studied. The most common type of transformations is replacing one component or word with a different one in order to describe current events which affect society. Journalists often use several methods to transform proverbs to give them a new meaning in headlines.
