Abstract
The proposed article explores the theme of motherhood in contemporary Slovak poetry, focusing on selected works by several female poets – Eva Luka, Marcela Veselková, Mirka Ábelová, and Lenka Šafranová. Examined are two main aspects of motherhood – fulfilled and unfulfilled. Additionally, the article highlights several key themes, including pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, child loss, and infertility. It also situates the selected poets within the context of contemporary Slovak poetry written after 1989, a period characterized by pluralism and experimentation. Furthermore, the research addresses the challenge of positioning female authors amidst the male voices that dominate the evolving landscape of postmodern literature.
