Abstract
The main focus of the present article is a little-known commentary by the National-Revival writer and folklorist Kuzman Shapkaev on the dictionary “A Lexicon of Bulgarian language based on folk literary heritage and publications of today’s press” (Moscow, 1885–1889) by the Russian Slav scholar Alexandre Duvernoy. Shapkaev’s lexicographical notes on the dictionary were published in the Еxarchate newspaper “Noviny” in late 1891 and early 1892. In the extensive material, he lists, interprets, and comments on over 120 word forms, divided into two groups: 1. words that are not found in the dictionary; 2. words, the meanings of which have been incompletely or incorrectly interpreted.
