Abstract
The paper takes under scrutiny three textbooks from the Seraphim and Vera Barutchiyski Series as representative of a 1930s German as a foreign language teaching course in Bulgaria. These pioneering German language textbooks which aroused great interest, were created by two prominent Bulgarian teachers. They are an emblematic product of their time offering a glimpse at the development of foreign language teaching in Bulgaria in the beginning of the 20th century.
