Abstract
The presence of archaic vocals has been repeatedly mentioned in every description of the Rhodopean dialects. These vowel sounds are presented as preserved articulation characteristic of the sound system of the proto-Bulgarian language. The article focuses on the articulation of the allophones of the phonemes [ò] and [è] in the dialect of Tihomir. We examine experimentally the specific sounds reflexes of the proto-Bulgarian 1, 2, ], [, э, and the interpretation of these allophones in the research work in the field of phonetics and dialectology.
Key words: archaic Rhodopean vocals, experimental phonetics, acoustics, spectrograms
