Abstract

The article is dedicated to the communicative and pragmatic aspects of selected ironic German inscriptions on T-shirts. Since the perception of reality and the sense of humor are subjective, an attempt is made to clearly distinguish the different forms of ironic statements based on a set of differential features, according to which the examples are classified using a three-level scale. In the analyzed cases, irony most often serves attractive, axiological, and manipulative functions. The analysis of the illustrative material confirms the scientific assumption that German inscriptions on T-shirts can structure cultural patterns of thinking and formulate recurring behavioral models.
