Abstract

Giovanni Verga is one of the most popular Italian authors; his works have been translated into several languages. However, translating his works is not an easy task due to the frequent occurrence of dialectal terms, proverbs, realia. Nevertheless, the author is well known among the foreign public, and his books are popular in many countries, including Bulgaria. Several translations into Bulgarian have been made through the 20th century. This paper focuses on the ways some of the most peculiar to the Italian culture passages are translated into Bulgarian.
