Abstract
By following the development of inherited linguistic traces, this paper presents an overall image of Slavic vernaculars in Kosovo and Metohija, mainly of the Prizren-South Morava type and the linguistic situation of the mouintain Šara region. The linguistic relations are analyzed in a broader Slavic context, focusing on the relationship of Slavic linguistic identity and religious affiliation – considered crucial for the ethnic status of each Slavic group.
