Abstract
The metaphor is a complete and perfect form of spiritual creativity. It is a universal principle of culture and human freedom in culture. It ceases to be a means of expression and becomes a universal means of thinking. It is an extension of our cognitive ability. Since the deep structure of the metaphor is based on the comparative effort with a negative sign and negation is an invariant of the three representative categories of comedy – irony, parody and grotesque – then its main function is the comedogenic one.
Key words: metaphors, irony, parody, grotesque, conceptualisation, communication
