Abstract
The subject of the article is purism which presents in most of the cases an obligatory element of the linguistic situation of every European literary language. The research discusses the following subtitles: the essence of purism; indicators and manifestations; its phases; factors that caused its appearance (national, historical aesthetic); types of purism (conservative and innovative); evaluation of its forms, etc.
