Abstract
The research paper is devoted to the centenary of the eminent Russian scholar Prof. V. A. Zvegintsev. Better known as an expert in Germanic and gen-eral linguistics, Prof. Zvegintsev also proved to be a noteworthy arabist. His study „History of Arabic Linguistics (A Brief Outline)“ („Istoriya arabskogo yazykoznaniya. Kratkiy ocherk“) proved a breakthrough in Arabic linguistics worldwide. In it the author treats the issue of the emergence of Arabic linguistic studies, whilst also arranging the facts in terms of significance and recentness.
