Abstract
The object of research in this paper is the problem of the competition of language forms on different levels – phonetic, morphological etc. The empirical basis employed hereby draws on Slavonic languages – Bulgarian, Russian, Polish etc. An especial accent has been put on the performances of competition in the grammatical system – much more complex than those found in the lexical sphere. The argument is maintained that the competition of language forms becomes a prominent typological feature of a given language when it works on all levels of its system.
Key words: language system, language levels, competition of language forms
