Abstract
The Theory of cognitive dissonance is one of the theories used as a point of reference in the recently emerging cognitive approach in translation studies. It has been applied to studying the process of translation by V. D. Voskoboynik. The paper gives an overview of how the theory is used to describe the place of this cognitive phenomenon in the translator’s episteme. Application of the theory by other scholars, as well as ways to use it in the process of translator training, are outlined.
Key words: translator’s cognitive dissonance, translation process, cognitive approach to translation studies
