Abstract
The paper reviews several pages in Facebook and examines in what way the knowledge of ancient languages and cultures is presented by their creators, and how effective the communication through the social network is in terms of its educational value and of level of participation. Most pages do not present original an content, but rather, offer links to other sites; many of them do not manage to maintain a stable group of visitors or to generate meaningful discussions. Successful projects are confined to features typical for the medium: playful experiments and entertainment.
Key words: classical ancient studies, educational web-based projects, social networks, participatory media, Facebook
