Abstract
The article is based on personal experience of a Czech literature historian with writing new Czech literature history. It is very difficult to create a synthetic view of literature metamorphosis of lasting validity in times that lack any univer-sal philosophy of history, in times of unstable methodology of literature science. The essay summarises the limits of older Czech literature history, positivist and structuralist, presents new implemented project „Dějiny české literatury 1945 – 1989 (Praha, Academia 2007-8) and argues against the opinion that creating lit-erature history is an antiquated matter. The article is a defence of the newly cre-ated methodology of literature history.
Key words: history, new Czech literature, history of literature, structuralism, positivism
