Abstract
The present research aims to delimit the functional field of exhortation in comparison with declarative and interrogative sentences and to mark the limits of the use of exhortative statements with imperative verb forms. The work is also focused on presenting the factors that in certain cases prevent the realization
of exhortative statements. The grounds on which the restriction of the use of said statements is mainly based are the semantic criteria of some verbs and, in other cases, the extralinguistic context.
