Abstract

The study examines four types of relations between context and the functioning of the grammemes of multi-member grammar categories in Bulgarian. By means of analyzing particular examples of these relationship types, the paper claims that the variation of grammeme realizations due to context does not affect their obligatoriness but rather exemplifies the oppositional and hierarchical relations between grammemes within one category, thus following a specific logic dependent on the constituent features of grammemes.

Key words: obligatoriness, grammemes, context, context variants, facultative and obligatory context neutralizations
