Abstract
The article presents a maximal model of the paradigm of the Bulgarian presumptive and its semantics. It also examines the use of presumptive in seven historiographic works dated from the first half of the 20th century. According to the analysed empiric data, the most frequent presumptive forms are the vouched for aorist and imperfect forms. It is also important to be mentioned that no non-vouched for presumptive forms were found in the studied historiographic works. Given that, I draw the conclusion that the Bulgarian presumptive is actually a specific feature of the style of the historiographic works of the examined time period. Presumptive is likely to appear in the contextual environment of renarrative and conclusive and does not often appear when the present historic tense is used. There are also only a few isolated cases of the use of presumptive with the indicative non-vouched for forms of the Bulgarian past tenses.
