Abstract
Laurence Sterne’s characters for many dominate the narrative and practi-cally render it useless. Thus all analyses of the plot and story of his novels and the problems with them seem unimportant. The paper promotes the idea of the characters’ presence within very much isolated micro-narratives, which com-pletely changes the traditional model in which plot-story operates.
Key words: Laurence Sterne, Tristram Shandy, Sentimental Journey, Shklovsky
