Abstract
The article presents a lexical-semantic analysis of the two basic attitudes of the picaresque universe: aggression and compassion. In order to answer the questions: what are the laws that ensure the survival of the picara and what laws govern the success of reception of picaresque works and the subsequent disintegration of the genre.
