Abstract
This article deals with the semantic links between the earliest works of E. I. Zamyatin and his “English prose”, notably “Islanders” and “The Fisher of Men” – satires on the life of British middle-class society. The article emphasizes their importance as the author’s first attempt to portray foreign (in the sense of non-Russian) reality. Their role as propellers of the themes elaborated upon in the famous dystopian novel “We” is analyzed in detail. The tendency to represent human psyche on a global philosophical scale rather than depict local characteristics that starts with “Islanders” is traced up to the final notable work of E. I. Zamyatin – the historical novel “The Scourge of God”.
Key words: English prose, global, human psyche, parallel, order
