Abstract
This paper examines the lexeme baş in Turkish by analysing its semantic structure, derivational productivity and role in phraseology and pragmatics. Originating from the core meaning “head,” baş develops an extensive network of concrete and abstract senses reflected in numerous derivatives, compounds and idiomatic expressions. Through cognitive-semantic and pragmalinguistic analysis, the study highlights how baş encodes cultural models related to leadership, hierarchy, emotional states and interpersonal relations, making it a key element of the Turkish lexical system.
