Abstract

The translation of dialogue speech units is examined based on Andrei Gelasimovʼs novel “The House on Lake Streetˮ (2010), translated into Bulgarian by Vasil Danov (2011). The analysis focuses on approaches to conveying metacommunicative markers and formulas. Special attention is given to the techniques for rendering the speech mode in accordance with the speakerʼs intentions and with respect to the common usage of the target language. The results of this study may be useful for systematizing translation strategies that ensure the communicative equivalence of the original and translated text.

Key words: Russian, Bulgarian, translation strategies, metacommunicative markers, discourse formulas
