Abstract

This article analyzes the representation of some precedent names and phrases connected with them from the sphere of European educational pro-grammes as a part of EU jargon in the intertextual thesaurus of Bulgarian youth. Drawing on a previous study that outlines their belonging to a concrete level of Bulgarian language personality (Chakarova 2024), it focuses on the results of a survey (consisting of structured and semi-structured questions) conducted among young educated people in Bulgaria with the aim to trace the connection between the above-mentioned precedent names and their uses to name the EU educational programmes, thus trying to delve into the problem of cultural memory. The results of the survey undoubtedly confirm the gap in the cultural memory and suggest developing of a new one – that of the Erasmus generation. However, this cultural memory concerns only the young people involved with the programme. Unfortunately, the rest of them fall below the line of even the average language personality.

Key words: precedent names, communicative/cultural memory, cognitive frame, European educational programmes, Erasmus programme
