Abstract
The purpose of the current study is to examine the basic trends in the development of Turkish linguistics, which are affected by the socio-political and cultural factors, as the influence of the Arabic and Persian languages, the reform periods in the historical development of Turkey, the adopting and adapting of the Latin alphabet during the formation of the na-tional language, etc. The present study involves some of the most signifi-cant works of grammar, which are mostly training materials intended for language learning. Some of them use the approaches and methodology of the traditional linguistics and some are influenced by modern linguistic theories. The focus of the study is put on the word formation processes related to the derivation in the modern Turkish language.
