Abstract

The paper compares the evidentiality systems in Turkish, Bulgarian and Albanian, and the evidential strategy in Romanian, with a special attention on the dubitative whose semantic content has two components – an evidential and a modal one. The dubitative is analyzed as one of the evidentials / evidential meanings in those languages additionally marked for modality.
