Abstract
The article is an introductory part of the comprehensive study of the „New Turkish-Bulgarian Letter Book“ (1873) by St. Popov and Iv. Chorapchiev. It traces little-known facts from the life and activities of the authors, with which they refute the label „turcophiles“ given to them by contemporaries. The letter
book is presented analytically and descriptively, considering the types of sample letters (63 letters), which are distinguished by genre, addressee and reason for writing. Their structure, addressing and dating are studied. Special attention is paid to label means – lexical and grammatical, oriented to two types of
addressees: official and unofficial.
Key words: Revival, new Bulgarian literary language, letter book, letters, epistolary genre
